Lexical Translanguaging in Textbook Preparation for Education in the Gamo Language of Ethiopia

As a country where more than 85 languages are spoken, Ethiopia framed, in its Education and Training Policy of 1994, which was revised 2021, the right to use mother tongue primary education. Following this, around 33 implemented schools as Medium Instruction (MoI). Gamo is one used MoI education taught subject up high school. This functional expansion into required textbook preparation, accordingly, textbooks for different subjects, including language subject, were published. One major feature availability Amharic English words, this research aims apply translanguaging, discursive practices bilingual speakers describe practice using words from textbooks. Lexical data collected five written interviews held with students teachers find out information about process writing translanguaging. The strategies identified include alternative borrowing, lexical inventions compounds. These address communicate meaning effectively. Writers their repertoire represent when word concept not available Gamo. In other instances, provided means enhancing clarity.
